This print is from a recent (and ongoing) series called “lostinFORMation”. In these new collages, I’ve begun using discarded papers that I found and collected: lists, documents, little notes, old prints and drawings, magazines, flyers, scraps and receipts. I became curious about the way that these mundane papers became remnants of my life - a little record of my habits, routines, responsibilities, and interests.

This practice of collage has lead me to think about fragmentation. In our current world we are constantly being bombarded by images, ads, news, memes, social media, ideas, opinions, texts, emails. Throughout the day we consume a multitude of fragments that end up filling our minds with a confusing collage of information. I’ve come to notice how it impacts me, making my distracted and frenetic.

I use the process of collage as an attempt to organize this chaos. I create small drawings and patterns on my scrap papers, then cut, rip, and glue, sometimes layering until the piece of paper I’m working on becomes heavy. I work intuitively, letting the materials determine the direction of each piece.

In this piece I used strips of an old La Croix box, old notebook pages, and pieces of painted patterns/designs that I cut up. I loved creating this intricate weave look, and seeing how the different materials interacted with one another. I hope you enjoy this fun piece:)
